Privacy & Cookie Policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights. We've tried to keep it in plain English.

Who we are

J & C AUTO'S, trading as J&C Autos, is the “controller” of your personal information — we decide how and why it's used. We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration reference ZA029655.

What we collect and why

When you use the estimate form: your name, email address, phone number, car registration and make (if you give them), your description of what happened, and any photos you upload. We use these to reply to you, prepare an estimate and arrange the work. Our legal basis is that it's needed to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in running our business. Please don't include photos of people.

When you call, WhatsApp or email us: whatever you choose to tell us, plus your phone number or email address.

Spam and security: to stop abuse we use a security check (Cloudflare Turnstile) on the estimate form, and we keep a scrambled (“hashed”) version of your IP address, which can't be turned back into your real address, to limit how many times a form can be sent. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure.

Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without using cookies or building a profile of you. If you accept analytics cookies we also use Google Analytics (see Cookies below), based on your consent.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your information. We use these companies to run the website and our business:

  • Supabase — stores enquiries and the photos you upload.
  • Cloudflare — hosts the website, protects it from abuse and provides cookie-free visitor statistics.
  • Resend — sends our email notifications and your confirmation email.
  • Google — we may save a copy of your photos in our Google Photos library so staff can use them when preparing estimates, and Google Analytics runs only if you accept it.

We may also share details with your insurer or another party involved in your claim, but only where you ask us to or it's needed to handle your claim. Some of these companies process data outside the UK; where they do, it's protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK's approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

WhatHow long
An enquiry that doesn't lead to a job (your details, what you told us, your photos)12 months after the enquiry, then deleted
Work we carry out for you (your details, estimates, photos, messages about the job)6 years after the job is finished — for accounting, insurance, warranty and legal-claim purposes
Copies of your photos saved in our Google Photos library for estimatingThe same period as the enquiry or job they belong to
Google Analytics statistics (only if you accepted analytics cookies)Up to 14 months

You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time (see Your rights).

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. Apart from the embedded Google Map (see below), we only use cookies that are strictly necessary unless you tell us otherwise. Analytics cookies are off by default — nothing from Google Analytics loads until you press Accept on the cookie banner. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes we'll update this page and ask you first.

The map on our Home and Contact pages is an embedded Google Map. It loads automatically, and Google may set its own cookies when it does — we don't control these (see Google's privacy policy). You can change your analytics choice at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that's wrong;
  • ask us to delete your information, or restrict how we use it;
  • object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests;
  • withdraw your consent at any time (for example, for analytics cookies).

To use any of these, call us on 01628 624424 or email jandcautos@gmail.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information we'll update this page and the “last updated” date at the top.
